Helping our military families overseas

Hi Everyone!  Is it ever hot, hot, hot!!! After the wind storm last week we lost electricity, but luckily got it back last night ... Wahoo :)  Wishing you all safety and hoping you stay COOL in this heat!  But enough from me, without further ado, enjoy this guest blog post from my mom (Thanks, Mom!) about her easy way for helping those serving our country.  Hugs, Megan

Each Sunday, if you get a newspaper, there are always tons of coupons.  I have thought for years it was ashame not to be able to send those we couldn't use to those that could use them.

In August 2011, I stumbled on a great blog, The Krazy Coupon Lady.  As I perused this site, I noticed on the right hand side of the home page a box saying "Donate Coupons to Military Overseas."  After investigating, I decided having grown up in a military family, this would be a worthwhile thing to start doing with the extra coupons we get each Sunday in our newspapers.  Basically, it takes a pair of scissors, time to cut the coupons and organize them into a "food" and "non-food" envelope/plastic bag and then a once a month trip to the post office to mail them for usually less than $6.00.

Where we live, there is an organization that supports our military troops by sending boxes overseas to them.  Periodically, they have fundraisers.  At one of them this past winter, I was talking with a military wife and made mention that I was cutting coupons and sending them so military families overseas could utilize them.  She got so excited and said that when her family had been stationed in Korea, once a month all of the military wives got together to sort through the box of coupons they would get from the USA!  She was impressed that the coupons were now sent already cut out  - at least with this organization.  There were several men in uniform that echoed this military wife's appreciation.  They said coupons help military families immensely.

A small, simple thing to do to show appreciation for all that our soldiers do for us that has a huge impact for both them an their families.  Hope this excites you and you participate!

Hugs,

Penny
