Life's a Charm: Happy Spring Table Runner

It is hard to believe it's Friday and I'm sitting here wondering where in the world this week went?!?  How about all of you? Has your week just flown by?

Today's the 5th of April and that means it's time for this month's "Life's a Charm" project.  Each month on the fifth we make a little project using either a mini charm pack (2 1/2" squares) or regular size charm pack (5" squares).  You can see January's project here, February's project here, and March's project here.  For this month we decided to do something super simplistic - a table runner - but still a fun item to add to your Spring decor.

If you follow us on Facebook you may have a heard last week we got a very special delivery ... a long arm quilt machine!!! We just love it and love everything we can do with it.  In honor of that this project showcases some quilting you can do.  For this project, you'll need a solid piece of fabric - we used linen - for the background of the table runner.  I chose to put a heavier quilting design on it, but you don't have to.  Swirls or meandering would look just as nice.  However, if you would like to do something similar to the quilting we've done, the design we used is attached in the pattern files.

Materials:
  • (1) Charm pack - you will have leftovers
  • (1) 22" x 36" piece of cream fabric
  • (1) 30" x 44" piece of backing fabric
  • 30" x 44" piece of batting
  • 6 buttons
  • Pinking shears
Directions:
Step 1:  Cut 14 charm squares in half to create 2 1/2" x 5" rectangles.  You should have 28 rectangles when done.  Sew these together to create one long chain.  This is your binding and creates a patchwork looking binding.

Step 2:  Create two large flowers by cutting out 2 of each of the three largest petals attached here.

Step 3: Create four smaller flowers by cutting out 4 of each of the three smallest petals attached here.

Step 4:  Sandwich your background fabric, batting and backing together and quilt as desired.  The design we used for quilting is also in the attachment.

Step 5:  Cut out the design border on the short end of the table runner in the attachment. Pictures are below.

Step 6:  Sew your binding on and place your flowers decoratively at either end securing the center with a button.

    1. Thank you! Making the flowers were so easy and super fun to make ... at first I wasn't so sure about the buttons, but they're all we had on hand and I didn't want to go to the store ... they ended up working out, though!
